About the Brand

Terra Ties is the leading brand for biodegradable hair ties. It was founded in 2019 by Jamie Sherwood and Jack Mann of Minneapolis, MN. After noticing hair ties scattered on the ground on city streets, sidewalks, parks, hiking trails, beaches, etc., they wondered what hair ties were made out of. After discovering that the vast majority of hair ties are made of polyester and synthetic rubber, two plastic-based materials that do not biodegrade or break down in the environment; Jamie and Jack set out to create hair ties that would biodegrade in the inevitable case that they were lost or thrown away at the end of their life.

The result was Terra Ties, hair ties that are made of natural rubber and organic cotton, making them fully biodegradable. In addition to being fully biodegradable and having packaging made from recycled materials, Terra Ties are softer, thicker, and more durable than standard hair ties and they are a great addition to our Zero Waste Hero hair care collection.
