6 Tips for Sustainable Camping

sustainable camping tips

Summer is for having fun outside. A lot of us spend the summers camping and in nature. Being responsible regarding our waste during camping is paramount for the safety of the environment and our own. Unfortunately, many people don't realize how harmful their camping habits can be to the ecosystem.

From leaving behind trash to starting fires carelessly, there are many ways we impact nature when we camp. But it doesn't have to be this way! Although we firmly believe that we can all enjoy camping while being eco-friendly with a little effort.. With that in mind, here are 6 Tips for Sustainable Camping

reusable cutlery

1. Swapping out Disposables with Reusables.
The first step to zero waste camping is to ditch the disposables. That means saying goodbye to paper plates, plastic cups and plastic cutlery and using reusable options instead. Although the camping and outdoor stores carry many reusable camping options, we carry some great zero-waste essentials such as our Plastic free water bottles, The JOCO Glass Reusable Coffee Cup and Stainless Steel Reusable Cups.

2. Pick the right food

Another way to reduce waste while camping is to bring along food that doesn't require packaging. This could mean bringing whole fruits and vegetables instead of pre-cut snacks or cooking meals from scratch using fresh ingredients. If you do need to get packaged foods, look for items that are minimally packaged or come in reusable containers. And, pack out all your trash when you leave so that the campsite is clean for the next visitors.

3. Cotton Totes instead of Plastic Bags for storage

4.Practice Mindfulness
Another way to reduce waste is by being mindful of what you bring with you in the first place. Choose sustainable and eco-friendly options, like campfire logs made from recycled paper or Natural Fiber sleeping bags. You can also pack food in reusable containers instead of individual wrappers.

5. Say Goodbye to Plastic Ziploc bags

There's no need to use disposable plastic bags to store your ingredients when so many great reusable options are available. When packing your items, try to use a silicone alternative instead. Not only will this save you money in the long run, but it's also better for the environment. Check out our Reusable Silicone Snap Close Bag with a unique design that allows it to stand up for easier filling.
